Wilderness First Aid Programs:

The Wilderness First Aid programs are designed for the recreational outdoor enthusiast, club leader, and the professional guide. These courses are based on the principals of wilderness care and first aid.

 

Wilderness First Aid

Is a 16 hr course concentrates on the basics of packaging and transporting patients and managing life and limb threats in remote environments.

Includes prevention and treatment of common environmental problems like Hypothermia and Heat Exhaustion and Stroke.

Advanced WFA

Is a 36-40 hr course that covers all the principals and practices of the WFA and introduces the concepts of longer term care and evacuation decisions. 

The AWFA allows for more time for practice through scenario based drills.

Wilderness First Responder

Is an 72-80 hr course that covers and expands the principals and practices of the previous two levels.

Introduces many of the common medical problems that you may encounter in a wilderness environment. 

It is a course designed to give you the tools to make effective evacuation decision and to more effectively deal with long term care and infection prevention.

It is the requiste certification for outdoor leaders and professional guides. This is a performance based certification.

Advanced WFR (Incident commander)

Is a 36 hr course based on case study and application of the skills of the WFR. The WFR is a pre-requisite.

This course centres around answering many of the "what if " questions from the WFR as well as some advanced care issues to better enable you to make long term care decisions.

Occupational First Aid for Remote Environments (OFARE)

These courses are designed for professionals that operate in remote environments and are responsible for partner/team rescue and safety. For example: forestry, fisheries, hydro, research, mining camps and other resource workers.

 

OFARE Level 1

Is a 16 hr course that concentrates on the basics of packaging and transporting patients and managing life and limb threats in remote environments.

Includes prevention and treatment of common environmental problems like Hypothermia and Heat Exhaustion and Stroke.

 

OFARE Level 2 (Advanced)

Is a 36-40 hr course that expands on and covers all of OFARE level 1 and introduces some of the principals of extended care in the wilderness. It introduces the concepts of evacuation decisions such as how fast and method of evacuation.

The level 2 offers greater opportunity to practice skills during scenarios based on skills taught through out the course.

 

OFARE Level 3 (First responder)

Is a 80 hr course that expands on and covers the pervious two levels plus dealing with medical problems such as diabetes, heart disease, infection and other common medical conditions. It also expands on the idea of when and how to evacuate by adding if evacuation is necessary.

By expanding to a 72 hr course we have allowed for many more practical scenario based drills. This is a performance based program and represents an advanced standard of care.

 

OFARE Level 4 (Advanced resonder)

Is a 36 hr course based on case study and application of the skills of level 3. The OFARE level 3 is a pre-requisite. This course centres around answering many of the "what if " questions from level 3 as well as some advanced care issues to better enable you to make long term care decisions.

While following the patient assessment and practice guidelines of Wilderness First Aid, these courses are designed to cover the basic workplace needs of the employer and give the specific and appropriate training for the work environment.
